Do you want to install your roller shutters yourself? It is entirely possible if you are well prepared. Before you start, here are some time-saving tips for successfully installing your shutters and choosing the method that is best suited to your window configuration.

What pose for what type of window?

Three types of installation are possible for installing your roller shutters: installation under a lintel (the simplest and most common), installation under an inverted lintel (especially if you place the roller shutter in front of a door that has a handle) or surface-mounted, that is to say on the facade (especially in the case of a small opening, to keep more light). For a new construction, the box is integrated into the masonry, it then serves as a lintel and hides the box.

The installation under the lintel

This pose, the simplest, allows you to press the shutter against the window and install the chest under the lintel, that is to say the upper part of the table. If the box is deeper than your wall, it will protrude but installation is still possible. This method has the advantage of being relatively simple (the shutter fits into the table). To succeed, remember to check the following points: - The height of your painting and the width of your lintel must match those of your shutter (once the slides are fixed to the trunk). If this is not the case, cut the slides using a hacksaw. - Do not forget to take the measurements of the passage of the control (manual or electric) and pierce the window frame (by passing the cable) before permanently installing your shutter. - If you have chosen to open manually, make sure you have at least 35 mm of jack (that is to say the clearance between the wall and the window frame) so as not to risk drilling glazing. - Pay attention to your levels and provide shims if necessary.

Installation under inverted lintel

This method is recommended if you install your roller shutter on a French window with a handle, since this would prevent the shutter from lowering under the lintel. However, this technique requires a wall thickness greater than that of the box and is not recommended for installation on a floor, access being difficult. If you choose this type of installation, observe the following points: - Check that your measurements (height of the table, width and depth of the lintel) correspond to your trunk decorated with backstage. You can cut backstage but the depth of the box must not be greater than that of the lintel. - Prefer an electric opening rather than a strap, which may wear out faster because it crosses the entire wall. - As for the installation under lintel, do not forget to pierce the passage of the command at the time when you pierce the fixings of the slides.

The surface installation

This pose is recommended if you want to favor the brightness in the event of a small opening. The slides are then fixed on either side of the table and the chest is installed above the lintel, plated on the facade. This method on the upper floor should however be avoided for reasons of accessibility. If this technique is the most suitable for installing your shutter, do not neglect the following points: - As with other types of installation, check your measurements carefully before starting. - Drill the slides right through, starting 10 cm from the edge and then each meter. - Do not forget to take the measurements of the order when you mark your wall and to place the order (or the cable) before fixing the assembly.

What equipment to provide?

Before starting to install your roller shutters, remember to bring all the necessary equipment, either a meter, a pencil, a drill, drills, a bubble level, wedges, a glue gun, a tube joint, hacksaw, soft file, hammer and dowels. In the case of an electric opening, electrical work will also have to be planned (duct passage and connection) and remember to take all the necessary safety measures.
